Did you know that on Cinco de Mayo (May 5th, an American celebration of the Mexican army defeating the French in battle), each year Americans make and consume roughly 185,000 Margaritas per hour?
This recipe makes a pitcher-full, so it serves as many as you see fit! Reposado, 100% agave tequila, is worth the extra expense, but if you’re having a big party, it’s not blasphemous to economize with less expensive tequilla and Triple Sec instead of the Grand Marnier.
No Cinco de Mayo fiesta is complete without these delicious margaritas!
This recipe was created by my dear friend Chuck, who shares his name with Carlos, whose restaurant, La Cueva del Pescador (Cave of the Fisherman), serves the best margaritas in all of Mexico! If you are ever in Akumal, Mexico, you must try the margaritas at this beach-front cantina.
Ingredients
- 6 ounces of gold tequila
- juice of 2 fresh limes
- 1 ounce of Grand Marnier
- 1/2 can frozen limeade (6 oz.)
- 2 cups of water
- ice
Instructions
- In a blender, add, in order, tequila, lime juice, and Grand Marnier. Blend for 10 seconds. Add limeade, water, and enough ice cubes to fill the blender container to 3/4 full.
- Blend at high speed until a frothy, even texture is reached. Pour into salted margarita glasses. Garnish each glass with a slice of fresh lime.
